The purpose of this assignment was to learn more about how our resume is viewed by others who are potentially trying to hire us. Not only that, but it shows us, compared to a job were looking into, what we could change to make our resumes that much more noticeable.
Jobscan was a really interesting tool that I had not heard about prior to this assignment. It was easy enough to use and most of what it came up with after scanning made sense as well, so it will be something I will try to use in future, although still a bit skeptical overall.
For the first scan, I used Assistant Manager - Athleta - Reston Town Center. I wanted something that was more of a standard job, just to see how it worked. I got a <20% match rate, which is crazy because I actually was an assistant manager at my last job.
For the second scan, I took one of the jobs that I found during week one, although I was very unqualified, because I wanted to see what my resume looked like compared to a media job, which is what I would ideally being doing after graduation. I used this for my example Lead User Interface Engineer. It gave me a 24% match, even with how unqualified I was, which is a bit surprising.
Overall, I learned from this that keywords are your best friend. A lot of the results I received were from a lack of important keywords and that will be the biggest thing that I will be working on to improve my resume.
