The purpose of this assignment was to discuss what we learned from the Lynda course, Foundations of the UX: Content Strategy. We are to talk about at least three points we found interesting and anything that we wanted to learn more about.

The first interesting thing that he talked about was how much content, we actually come in contact with in any given day. He says that anything from wall art to markings on the road are content. Although I could have told you previously a broad definition of content, I never thought of it as having that much of a wide range. When he gave the actual definition of content; anything that communicates or transfers meaningful information to a person, it made me think about it as a big picture versus just looking at what I see on the internet as ‘content’. I also learned a lot about content strategy. If you would have asked me before if I knew what this was, I probably would have told you a very vague answer about how it must have something to do with the way you put your content out there, which isn’t necessarily wrong, just very small compared to what it really entails. He talks about the four stages, which then consist of 2-3 stages in themselves, I never realized how many things that you have to take into account before you can have your finished product/content. I also learned more about stakeholders, which, again was something I could have given you a very minimal definition on prior to this course. I knew that they wanted to get the most out of their project, but I learned that it is much more about them that making sure they make their money from the project.

I would like to learn more about defining audiences for a specific product, because even though it seemed simple when he explained it, I can guarantee that you have to look much more in depth at the people you want. I would also like to learn more about content audits because anything that can make me a tad bit more organized is always welcome.

I’m sure a lot of this will be used throughout the class in various ways. For example, I can use the content audit idea to keep my information organized throughout the class, and I might have to use what I learned about defining audiences to come up with the target audience for our fictitious project.
